Saving Private Ryan

After surviving the initial landing of Normandy, John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) is tasked with finding Private Ryan (Matt Damon), after all three of his brothers are killed in action. Saving Private Ryan displays Spielberg at his best: creating a thrilling ride, with an engaging narrative, that doesn’t get hung up on gags or tricks. And of course, the first thirty minutes or so might be one of the most riveting battle sequences ever filmed. 

Apollo 13

The narrative of this film, as you probably know, follows the true story of the Apollo 13 mission. It also looks at the importance of working together (above), and manages to get a little sappy in the process. Still, Its strong visuals and performances make it a must see.

Toy Story

This film was the first to be made from a Pixar and Disney collaboration and it hasn’t been topped since. It captures all the joys, sorrows, and thrills of childhood like very few others. Not to mention it stars toys.

The Green Mile

In a story about a man wrongfully accused of murder, (Michael Clarke Duncan) the preciousness of life is exposed through his interaction with the other inmates as well as a prison guard. Special care is taken to show the value of all life, big or small, even that of a mouse.
