War of the Worlds
Sometimes when Hollywood decides to do a big budget makeover of a film or book, sequel or prequel the budget actually helps. H. G. Wells’s perennial sci-fi classic War of the Worlds is one of those films. The technology (which of course includes the famous tripods above) looks for lifelike in this modern revamping; it doesn’t help to have Steven Speilberg behind the lens either.

Jaws
This movie, because of a faulty mechanical shark, became one of the most effective thrillers ever. When Martin Brody (Roy Schneider), Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), and Quint (Robert Shaw) go on a hunt for a man eating shark our nerves are hung out to dry. This film builds the tension by not showing us the titular creature, and it made a pop culture phrase out of “Were gonna need a bigger boat”. I mean, come on.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
There might not be a more fun movie to watch than this one. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the sum of all adventure movies that came before it, and the progenitor of all those that came after. On paper Indiana Jones searches out historical artifacts; yet it should be a crime how different it ends up being in reality (or movie reality). The still above shows just one of those artifacts.

Jurassic Park
I watched Jurassic Park dozens of times as a little kid and I still return to it. I love the well thought out sci-fi plot line, (which is actually from Michael Chrichton’s book of the same name) groundbreaking visuals effects, and frightening dinosaurs of course. This still also tells you to be careful when playing God, a main theme. Not to mention Jeff Goldblum who is also in this frame.
