Star Wars
Considering all the diverse elements that make up Star Wars, its permeation of pop culture is somewhat surprising. Effeminate droids, walking carpets, archaic religions, spaceships, and, of course, lightsabers all make for interesting mix, but one that is greater than its whole. That said, this film’s ultimate merit lies in its ability to tell a tale as old as time in a completely fresh way.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
There might not be a more fun movie to watch than this one. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the sum of all adventure movies that came before it, and the progenitor of all those that came after. On paper Indiana Jones searches out historical artifacts; yet it should be a crime how different it ends up being in reality (or movie reality). The still above shows just one of those artifacts.

Blade Runner
By having the main character Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) hunt down robots, made by a mega-corporation, that look exactly like humans this film offers some interesting perspective on humanity and capitalism. That being said the breathtaking special effects, and vistas like the still above, are me favorite feature of Blade Runner. If it wasn’t for the hair you might not know it was from the 1980’s.
